Middle school choir is open to all students grades sixth through eighth. This is a great opportunity to expand your vocal skills by singing in 3 part harmony and by singing alone as a cantor during Mass. The choir will sing at all middle school Masses, 4 or 5 Sunday Masses, the Parish Picnic Mass, the Christmas Eve 5:15 pm Mass, and the eigth grade Graduation Mass.  We also sing at the Christmas Program, a Choir Festival in the spring, and are planning 2 or 3 during the school day service performance trips a year.

Middle School Choir at the Vatican 2010-2011
During the 2010-2011 Christmas break,  41 seventh and eighth graders from St. Francis of Assisi School participated in the 36th International Festival of Pueri Cantores in Vatcian City. The festival, with more than 90 youth choirs from around the world, included multiple rehearsals and performances, including an audience with Pope Benedict XVI. The festival concluded with a Papal mass for the Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God on New Year’s Day at St. Peter’s Basilica.

A total of 121 people traveled with the St. Francis Middle School Choir which is directed by Linda Opaleski.  Although the group enjoyed many sightseeing and shopping activities it was the experience of seeing and singing for the Pope with 1000 youth from around the world in the heart of the Catholic Church that has left a lasting impact.  Read AnnArbor.com article
